Thursday July 1
* Come celebrate Canada Day with the community of Glen Williams with events from morning to late afternoon. The Georgetown Little Theatre Youth Company will participate in the noon parade and will be doing face painting in the Park, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring your kids and drop by the St. John's United Church fish pond....just one of many things to enjoy at the Canada Day Celebrations in the Glen.
* Stay in Glen Williams for a Canada Day Chicken BBQ and Fireworks at St. Alban's Church hall and ground. Barbecue begins at 6:30 p.m. and fireworks at dusk. Tickets will be available mid June; call 905-877-8323.
* Or head to Acton as the community celebrates Canada Day with Concerts in the Park, starting at 6 p.m. in Prospect Park. Then the Acton Firefighters Association is hosting its annual Canada Day fireworks display at Prospect Park, starting at dusk. Sunday, July 4
* Knox Presbyterian Church, 44 Main St. N. Acton is offering Summer Sunday School classes for children during July and August . The theme is Seaquest, Diving for God's Treasure. Thursday July 8
* Yoga in the Park , presented by Leanne Monaghan of Staying Alive Fitness, is a seven week fundraiser for the Upper Credit Humane Society starting on Thursday July 8 at Prospect Park in Acton. Yoga classes are free and open to all skill levels with a donation of your choice (food, supplies, money) for the animals at the UCHS; yoga mats will be available for rental at $2, all proceeds go to the shelter. Yoga in the Park is also a perfect opportunity to get fit and know you are helping the UCHS shelter animals as they wait to get permanent homes. Weather permitting. * Auditions for Georgetown Little Theatre's production of "Wait Until Dark" a suspenseful thriller by Frederick Knott, will take place 7-9:30 p.m. and also on Sunday July 11 1-4 p.m. at the GLT Studio (33 Stewarttown Road, Georgetown). Saturday July 10
* Upper Credit Humane Society is holding a yard sale to support the Kitten Foster program at the Limehouse Memorial Hall in Limehouse. Sale runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with " a box for a toonie" from noon to 1 p.m. Canadian Tire money accepted for purchases. The group can also deliver bulky items if local delivery. * Trunk and bake sale at St. John's Anglican Church in Stewarttown (at the corner of Trafalgar Road and 15 Sideroad) from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Vendors are welcome! Cost is $10. For more information contact Maureen at 905-873-2216.
Wednesday July 14
* Visit Willow Park After Dark from 8-9:30 p.m. This is a fun evening in the park for families to learn about small bugs, creatures and bats that inhabit the park at night. To take part call 905-702-9055.
Friday July 16
* Hungry Man Breakfast will be held at the Georgetown Legion Branch 120, 127 Mill St. from 8-11 a.m. The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for kids, with takeout available.
Saturday July 17
* Movies in the Park in Prospect Park in Acton at dusk. Bring your loawn chair!
Monday July 19
* Three local Anglican Churches join together to offer Vacation Bible School - Baobob Blast! It's three fun-filled weeks of games, crafts, music and snacks, open to kids ages 4-12. It is offered July 19-23 at St. George's Church, 60 Guelph St. Georgetown, 905-877-8044; July 26-30 at St. Paul's, Adamson St., Norval 905-877-3404; and August 16-2- at St. Alban's, 537 Main St., Glen Williams. Cost per child: one week $20, two weeks $35, three weeks $45.
* From July 19-23, Georgetown Alliance Church provides an action-packed week of basketball that includes daily instruction from coaching staff and camp director Richard Matolo, games and a practice each day with your team, and plenty of team and individual competitions. Matolops Basketball Camp which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. is a place where children aged 8-15 can develop into a complete athlete! * SportzPlus Sports Camp at The Salvation Army, Georgetown Community Church, 271 Mountainview Rd. S. The camp runs from July 19-23 and August 16-20, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and includes skills training in various sports such as soccer, basketball, and ball hockey. * Georgetown Bread Basket will be at the Georgetown Farmers Market selling raffle tickets to raise funds for the food banks.
Monday July 26
* The President's Cup Golf Tournament will be held at The Club at North Halton. Enjoy golf, cocktail reception, dinner, silent auction, and awards. Proceeds from the President's Cup are donated to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation to fund both medical equipment and capital redevelopment at Georgetown Hospital- the tournament goal is $40,000 in support of local healthcare.
